Kathy Bernstein is a Colorado-based sculptor and painter who treats art as both a passion and a daily practice. Working primarily in clay, armature, and mixed media, her work is known for its charm, humor, and originality. Since 1989, Kathy has exhibited her art in galleries and juried shows across the country.
Kathy’s creative process often begins with sculpture. She crafts expressive busts, animals, and human figures, which she then integrates into her paintings. Using oil and acrylics, she adds vibrant color, texture, and movement—sometimes even framing her pieces in unexpected ways to enhance depth and spontaneity.
Her career began with shows at venues including 21st Century Gallery, Gallery M, Whistling Pig, and Renaissance Gallery. Seeking to deepen her sculptural knowledge, she studied with the Chapungu of Zimbabwe at the Denver Botanic Gardens. She holds an Associate of Arts from Menlo College and a Bachelor of Arts from Antioch University.
Kathy has also earned certificates in Fine Art Appraisal and Connoisseurship of Fine Art from UC Irvine, and served as a docent at the Denver Art Museum. In 2011, she joined In the Mix, a collective of local artists. Her background in art education and design theory has refined her approach to color, composition, and visual storytelling—giving her work a distinct and original voice
